Sopho On The Road - A Little Drive to Dartmoor

Sometimes, even if the sun that the weather man promised has gone back in just as quickly as it shone, it's worth getting up off of the sofa, dragging yourself away from Holly and Phil and going on a little outing...trust me.

The other afternoon, on a bit of a whim, Tom, Dan & I jumped on into Howie the Mini and took a little drive up onto Dartmoor. We're super lucky living where we do as we quite literally have everything within a 20 minute drive or so, the beach, the moors and the city are a really short distance away - pretty jammy really! On top of that Cornwall is only about 30 minutes from my new house so you can't go wrong really. Anyway, huge tangent - as usual, we went in search of pretty places and cream tea, so after a little while in the car, we parked up at a little place called Crapstone (Devon is not always blessed with the best place names...). It's arguably not the prettiest of places on the Moors, but it's big and it's open and it's perfect if all you want is to blow off the cobwebs and have a little bit of fresh air... plus there are more adorable Dartmoor ponies than you can shake a stick at and cream tea but a moment away. Perfect.

We headed straight for the tearoom from the car. I must admit, when we first walked in it was all a bit League of Gentlemen 'Local Place for Local People' and went completely silent as soon as we opened the door which was both hilarious and horrendously awkward but once we got over that and got settled down with a pot of tea and some scones all awkward turtles were thankfully returned to their tanks... If you're in the area, the cream tea is really good and priced really reasonably (about £4.50 for two scones and a pot of tea), but do bear in mind that the tearoom itself isn't the most modern of establishments- which is in no way a bad thing and to be completely honest, to be expected from a Moorland tearoom aimed largely at the elder population, but if you don't mind a doily or two, it's ideal.

After tea, we went for a bit of a wander - translate that as 'went in search of a pony for Sophs to pet'- and had a little fuss with some of the more well hoofed (get it?!) inhabitants, one of whom, as you can see, had some incredibly fetching braids in their mane... how very Spring/Summer 2014! The ponies are really tame and are quite happy with a little fuss here and there- we used to feed them with sugar cubes and carrots when we went on little outings as children. There was a lovely little gingery one that took quite the liking to Tom and proceeded to chase him (quite literally) which made for some pretty priceless photos.

Anyway, it was only a little trip, but like I always say, I like to share these little snippets of my life with you, however mundane they seem, and it's nice to be taking a conscious effort to be taking more photos of my every day happenings!
